The second week of the Curry Review, and it's getting pretty popular! This week we're having the $27.50 banquet2 as seen on the menu here, with entree, mains and dessert. Not a big place, and as Josh mentioned on the night, all the staff looked like they were indian, which I guess means that we were going to get some authentic food. At the end of the evening, family of the staff started eating dinner as well, so the food can't be that bad!

Our final score: 7.658/10

Entree Mixed Pakora & Chicken Tikka

The pictured food is of the mixed pakora (left) and Chicken Tikka (right) with some mint and yoghurt dipping sauces. For $27.50, the entire banquet was only a few dollars more than a standard meal at last week's venue, Tandoori Oven. The Chicken Tikka was very tasty, juicy meat and crisp sauce on the outside complimenting each other nicely. The mixed pakora, a deep fried mixed vegetable parcel with spice and curry flavouring, was excellent as well. Overall, the main curries and entrees were not hot at all, mild at most, but service was good.

A Banquet of Curries

An interesting selection of mild curries, with only a couple of the usual suspects. I was a bit confused when the staff took away some of our raita and chutney at the end of the entree, but it turns out we didn't need it. This is restaurant for those who don't like it hot. I like a lot of rice with my curry and there was plenty to go around. Meat was tender and the amount of food was perfect.

Prawn Malabar

(Pictured is Steve drinking from a wine glass using only his thumb) Unfortunately my presence this week delivered no free liqueur shots, but there were other delights to be enjoyed. My Prawn Curry, included in Banquet no. 2, tasted home cooked, and usually that would mean authentic. However, it's home cooked taste made it plain. I'm not a big chilly lover, but this dish would have been improved by more spices including hotness. The ambiance of the place was fresh and lively, a wall mirror even tricked me into thinking there was an extra room.

Service: 7.0/10 -Minor lapse in wine pouring/ tasting etiquette, otherwise friendly and efficient.
Quality: 6.5.0/10 -Too plain, fresh seafood was noticeable, but overall nothing special.
Atmosphere: 7.0/10 -That mirror was effective, and the restaurant felt contemporary.
Value: 6.0/10 -($27.50) CHOW MAKE THIS UP I CANT REMEMBER THE PRICE LOL!
Final Score: 6.625/10

Dessert Gulab Jamun

It took a while for these desserts to come out, and as an added bonus, Abby and Gus who did not have the banquet, received these for free! From first looks, the brown ball and vanilla icecream could make some people wary about what it tastes like. But upon eating, it turned out to be a small sweet spicy cake ball with a hint of cinnamon I think. Very nice dessert, and the icecream had some spices in it as well. It topped off the end of the banquet very nicely!

The Chili Roulette!

The second week of Chili Roulette! this week with 12 people participating I was hoping for a higher hit rate. As you can see from the picture, apparantly the restaurant didn't have any fresh chilis to give me, so instead they gave me a bowl of some kind of hot curry sauce. It looked pretty hot with the chili oil floating on top but it was no substitution for red burners! As per last week a few people were a little scared of the round, but only two people had their number called. Maybe next week then...

Again, curry veteran Josh had no troubles, as it turned out the bowl of sauce wasn't that hot at all.

Daniel this week had to take two shots of sauce, apparantly it's hotter after two!
