Balti House

| 167 Goodwood Rd Millswood SA 5034 Phone: (08) 8357 7716 5pm-10pm Sun-Thu; 5pm-11pm Fri-Sat
Well colour me pink! Can you believe that the curry review is back?! After being busy with everything every weekend this year so far, I finally had time
to organise another edition of curried delights! After speaking with a friend who recently came back from holiday in H'England, he suggested a new
curry place run by some British-Indians. We all know now that England is the new India, and curries are pretty much England's staple diet. So, how well
does Australia's Mum cook tea? We'll find out!
Our final score: 5.8125/10

Balti House Special
So, the name Balti is used to name the special English created style curry dishes, thought to originate back to Birmingham curry houses which were called "Balti Houses". These
places were typically a cheap cafe you got takeaway from, like a fish and chip shop but Indian. The "Balti House Special" was a mixture of Tandoori meats, made Balti style by
putting Balti sauce over it, which was a tomato chutney curry sauce. That's all that makes it Balti style. Not bad tasting, but really there was nothing special and there was hardly any meat, I think I counted 5.
Service for the night was slow, and for five pieces of meat for $20 definitely not cheap. So if you're English and you want the taste of your modern-homeland, then come here, but otherwise
there is much better value on Unley Rd for traditional curries.

Service: 5.7/10 -Few customers, took an hour but friendly English owners.
Quality: 6.4/10 -Tasted ok, but nothing special, sauce made all meats taste the same.
Atmosphere: 5.4/10 -Minus points for tables being so low, just a cafe converted restaurant.
Value: 4.5/10 -Had to pay for rice even though they were supposed to come with it!!
Final Score: 5.5/10

Green Chicken Curry
The Balti House is a quaint yet charming dining room on Goodwood road.
It has a high, domed ceiling stretching many metres above the floor
which I guess makes it all the more puzzling when the tables only come
3ft above the fucking floor. After managing to squeeze the top of my
thighs under the tablecloth I got stuck. An hour later our food arrived,
mine was a Green Chicken Curry and it was spicy and delicious. It was actually very
flavoursome and while the meat was in big chunks it wasn't lacking and
for once we got served more rice than we needed without having to demand
extra.
For a small family restaurant without much economy of scale and only two
staff I thought the Balti House did an excellent job of accommodating a
group of 15 who all ordered different meals. They all came out at the
same time. Indians with British accents made it all the more worthwhile.
A good place for a meal, if you're not tall or dating a netballer.

Service: 8.0/10 -Friendly, co-ordinated the meals and rice, gave us free pappadums while we waited.
Quality: 7.5/10 -Maybe the wait made it tastier, but I recommend the meal.
Atmosphere: 4.0/10 -Below average for an Indian restaurant but I've never been to an authentic balti house so who knows?!
Value: 5.0/10 -Average. Just under $30 for meal, rice and Orange Juice.
Final Score: 6.125/10
