Snake Charmer
|
| 60 Unley Rd Unley, SA 5061 Phone: (08) 8272 2644 Lunch noon-2.30pm Mon-Fri, Dinner 5.30-late, 7 days
I've been to the Snake Charmer before with family, and it has been pretty good. Good choice of name as well, and as you can see from
the picture, this place has bene around for quite some time, so one would expect some decent meals here. This week I brought along a
coupon as well which made things pretty cheap, but if you have the Entertainment Book card you get 25% otherwise. They have Kingfisher beer,
as well as the local Cooper's and James Squires India Pales.
Our final score: 6.016/10

Country Captain
For some reason, the listing of spices and lime flavour on chicken pieces enticed me to try this apparently indian dish.
Probably stemming from English roots, all this was was 3 pieces of random chicken pieces in some kind of spice coating and the meat
was all very bony. In hindsight, why did I even choose this, I mean, just by looking at the name it isn't even a curry! I at least
expected some kind of indian twist, but I am pretty disappointed, no hotness as well. Josh's curry was pretty good though. What kind of country appoints
their leader's title as "captain" anyway? Do they mean in sport, like cricket? I'm sticking to real curries from now on.

Service: 6.9/10 -Nothing to complain about here, reasonable speediness.
Quality: 1.5/10 -This shouldn't be served in an Indian restaurant, full stop.
Atmosphere: 7.2/10 -Indian beats in the background, goldfish temple, not bad at all.
Value: 5.6/10 -$20.00 with Sparkling Ale, but I wouldn't pay full price for this, ever...
Final Score: 5.3/10

Hyderabad Chicken
This place had a good curry vibe going on inside. There were lots of earthy colours around the place and the main eating area was quite
narrow, which makes it seem more personal. I ended up with the hyderabad chicken, which I'll admit was selected
almost exclusively because the name amused me (Chow had already selected the country captain). I did well, this stuff was nice. I don't remember
what was in it exactly, but there was some chicken, some yoghurt and a bunch of other colourful things in there. As always, the meat could have
been more tender, but this stuff was awesome compared to the country captain.

Beef Rendang (Supposedly Hot)
I asked for my Beef Rendang to be extra hot. Extra implying it would be hotter than the normal heat it came with
standard. The beef Rendang wasn't very hot. It all tasted pretty nice; the handful of beef chunks that floated in a sauce
were tasty. However breaking them into sizable portions with a spoon was not what I paid for. Yes, circumstances did not
bode well for the snake charmer with my Rendang sitting passively in its bowl and my roti seemingly missing in action.
Then it arrived, the Roti and Naans. Each so delicious and tasty. With that Roti I didn't care about the lack of spice,
the cool draft from the door, the white rice and it's High GI curse. It was excellent Roti. I would go back to the snake
charmer, but only for the Roti.

Service: 5.0/10 -Pretty middle of the road, Roti took too long to come out.
Quality: 6.5/10 -Curry was nice, but not hot enough and pieces were too large. Roti boosts the points.
Atmosphere: 5.5/10 -It used to be a house. One goldfish and way too many mirrors. I'm not Indian.
Value: 7.0/10 -The price was under $20 and rice was included however I'd classify everything as about lunch sized, rather than a dinner.
Final Score: 6.0/10

The Chili Roulette!
Hooray, this time they had some red chilis to hopefully burn some mouths this week. After having a pretty lame meal in terms
of hotness, maybe the chili roulette could provide some warmth. Surprise Surprise, the only person this week to hit the chili
jackpot was Josh, adding yet another chili to extend the lead.
Josh's Roulette Hits: 3 singles 1 double
Chow's Roulette Hits: 1 Single
Gus' Roulette Hits: 1 double
Dan's Roulette Hits: 1 double
