Indian Brasserie
|
| 65 Gouger St Adelaide SA 5000 Phone: (08) 8212 5065 Lunch Tue-Sat noon-2.30pm; Dinner 7 days 5-10pm
Curry on a Friday night on Gouger St, be prepared to drive at an average of 10km per hour and line up for pay parking! BUt all good, as this place
is apparantly one of the better indian restaurants on Gouger St. Not a very big place, but has street dining which would be great on a not so cold night!
A few bits of india culture around the place, and obviously big cricket fans with signed cricket bats and a picture of Ashish Nehra. So, pretty good atmosphere,
and was very nice of them to accomodate for some extra curry eaters by extending our table too!
Our final score: 5.667/10

Lamb Para Punjabi
In a nutshell, the service in this place wasn't that great. Although they accomodated us for some extra seats, it seemed that they
only had one waiter to cater for the whole restaurant. Some of our orders got lost, and we waited a fair while for drinks to be refilled,
and for rice to come out with our curries. Apart from that, the meal in general was satisfying but nothing special. It was quite hot though, Stacey and I both ordered mild
versions of our meals and they were pretty hot! Cheese naan was good too, and overall the price of $35 each was high. Unfortunately some of us had sickly stomachs,
especially Ken who actually threw up right after leaving us, poor guy! I wouldn't come back here again unless it was less packed,
but otherwise it's just your average place to "get your curry on!" (as Abby would say)

Atmosphere: 7.5/10 -Nice place, a bit cramped inside though!
Value: 5.6/10 -A bit expensive for what we got, $55 for rice! What a rip!

Chicken Masala
Being the resident expert in anality, the cleanliness of this place made me a
tiny bit uncomfortable, there was a distinct smell and feel of condensed cooking
fat in the air and on many of the surfaces. Then, being the resident expert on
being Asian, leads me on to what we paid for rice; $55 buys about 50KG of rice
at most of the Asian groceries at the central market which are a 1 minute walk
from this review, also buys 2 bottles of Jhonny red, or a carton of very nice
beer. Puts it into perspective dosen't it? we collectivley paid $55 for rice,
and the serves were just enough to finish our curries.

Service: 6.0/10 -Staggered service of meals, a bit slower than usual.
Quality: 5.5/10 -Spicy, but otherwise very plain. This particular curry has flavour cues from some south-east asian styles in its use of spices and coconut cream.
Atmosphere: 6.0/10 -Pleasant, simple dining room, was not as clean as the others, but this is to be expected of establishments in this area.
Value: 5.5/10 -Average, servings were small, I finished my meal feeling under-nouished. See my whinge about the rice.
Final Score: 5.75/10

Beef Vindaloo (Hot)
Friday night, 3 days from when the war began. Allergies had broken the borders at my glands and throat. The immune system fought
back valiantly but was overwhelmed. Since that first morning the war had been hell. Noses had been blown, nothing had been tasted for days.
It was a stalemate, a blockage, and the Indian Brasserie was the saviour. The sliced chili gave my beef vindaloo the power to storm through my skull, invigorate my senses
and satiate my stomach. Priced well for an Adelaide hot-spot, the extra spice gave it the kick it needed.

The Chili Roulette!
Again, a record number of people turning up, about 16 of us I think! This is becoming quite the hit for Friday night dining!
With all the people, you would think that there'd be a high chance of at least one person getting a taste of the chili. You can probably see
where I'm going with this... no one got a chili again this week! Hopefully next time it'll be back to normal! Eli tasted the chili, and apparntly just a bit hot, nothing special.
