We're back for some more delicious curry, and this time breaking in a fairly new place in town! In between Gouger and Grote St, British India is a fairly fancy restaurant with two sections; the main restaurant and a more casual dining area on the side called the Thali Room, which was the more fitting choice for us. Unfortunately we were locked into getting the banquet because of a group booking, so the food had better be worth our $37 each! Let's find out!

Our final score: 8.0875/10

Beef Qoorma

Yet another funny way of spelling one of my favourite dishes, I really missed the flavour of a good korma curry. This dish was one of the six main dishes we recieved as a part of the banquet, which also came with the most tasty entree chicken tikka that I have ever had! The beef Qoorma was exceptional, with the meat texture just perfectly melting in your mouth, and the flavours of pepper and cinnamon wrapped in a creamy texture bursting out. One of the best curries I have had for quite some time, and service was very quick (because we were locked into the banquet) and friendly as well. There was plenty of food to go around with rice and plenty of naan, and to top it off there was rose scented rice pudding for dessert, filling up our stomachs over their brims! Was it all worth it? Definitely. Would I come back again? Most definitely. I'm not sure about the fancy restaurant area, but this was more than enough for a great dinner out!

Service: 7.9 -No complaints, can't say for sure how good service was due to the set menu.
Quality: 9.4/10 -Just great, all dishes were fantastic - even the vegetarian dish.
Atmosphere: 8.2/10 -Great cocktail-bar decor, but needed some indian flair to it.
Value: 8.2/10 -Excellent food means a few dollars more, but there's better value out there!
Final Score: 8.425/10

Butter Chicken

Dinner at British India was a nicely rounded experience. The atmosphere was dim and cosy, emphasis was definitely more on the "British" than the "India", but it was very comfortable and there were desk lamps on the ceiling. As a group of eight, we were forced to order the banquet, which is not ideal for semi-vegetarians like me as half the dishes are written off immediately. Apart from the butter chicken, there was a very decent (though not spicy) barramundi masala, a lentil mush (edible, a bit dull) and another unidentified veggie thing (it was dark!). I also enjoyed the eggplant (strange but good) and chicken tikka entrees. The butter chicken was the spiciest thing I tried and although it was very good, I definitely would rate it "no burning". My favourite thing on the table was the naan. It was soft and chewy and reminiscent of pancakes. Dessert was an alarmingly-spelled "rice mouse". I tried one teaspoon and decided that both rice and mice, as desserts, are not for me.

Service: 9.0/10 -No complaints. All super efficient and accommodating. Didn't have much interaction with them though so it's hard to judge!
Quality: 8.0/10 -After 3 cocktails, all the dishes seemed awesome to me!
Atmosphere: 8.0/10 -Lovely. A little bit too dark - needed more desk lamps on the ceiling.
Value: 6.0/10 -Didn't get money's worth. $37 is a lot when you're not going to eat half of it.
Final Score: 7.75/10

The Chili Roulette!

I don't understand how restaurants don't have chilis! This hot paste was all they had, but alas no one was called up to try it! Next time!

Very peppery, but not overly hot unfortunately.
