Oh! Calcutta
|
| 171 Main South Rd Morphett Vale SA 5162 Phone: (08) 8382 0079 Open When? Dunno, there's no info anywhere!
Oh! This place has been recommended by at least two people I know, and it's the local curry house for many of the gym people as well, so I guess
I am kind of obliged to review this place for my peoples! Situated in the bronx, this place is a small takeaway turned restaurant, so theres not too much seating, but
I've been told that all it takes is 35 people and you can book the place out... with free karaoke entertainment! This will be the closest curry place to my house, so it had better
be good on the charts! Oh, Entertainment Book voucher can be used here too.
Our final score: 7.025/10

Bombay Prawns
A few of us actually got the banquet (number3) which consisted of about seven mains, naan, entree and also icecream sundae... all for about $28! Amongst three of us, that was definitely
an overload of food! I thought I might review the prawns for a bit of a change, and also prawn curries are hard to get just right so this will be a good test of quality.
The sauce was very rich with chunks of juicy tomato and not overly sour either. The prawns were a little overcooked, being slightly rubbery but still not too bad. I've never had a 'Bombay' flavoured curry, but this was
definitely one to remember - quite hot! Now, I am a big girl when it comes to hot food, but I'm sure to any experienced person it would be just spicy. Overall a good dish, I might choose this again next time.

Service: 7.0 -No complaints here, service with reasonable pace.
Quality: 7.6/10 -Nice sauce flavour, prawn a bit overcooked, still not bad.
Atmosphere: 5.7/10 -Very cramped inside, not the best we've been to.
Value: 8.1/10 -Banquet is great value, and I think takeaway is very cheap too!
Final Score: 7.1/10

Beef Vinderloo
So again, I made another mistake of not taking photos of other people's curries, so this is another biased moment in curry history. Anyway, you might notice
the spelling of the name of the curry above... yup, that's how they spelled it on the menu! Now, as mentioned previously, I am not the right person to challenge against in
a chili eating contest. It would be like a swearing contest between Gordon Ramsay and the Pope, the outcome pretty much crystal. To put it simply, I've only ever cried once
whilst eating curry, and that was when curry got into my eye, but this time it was all mouth heat. It's lucky I didn't try the Zinderloo, the extreme version of the vinderloo!
Flavour was good with a touch of pepper and tomato, but the beef was quite tough unfortunately. If you like the hot stuff, try this or the Zinderloo, hopefully the tenderness will be better.

Service: 7.0/10 -Well, I can't rate it any different than before can I?!.
Quality: 7.0/10 -Apart from the tough beef, not too shabby in the flavour department.
Atmosphere: 5.7/10 -There was a fountain inside which splashed me a lot whilst eating.
Value: 8.1/10 -Again, a part of the banquet, good points here
Final Score: 6.95/10

It has been a while, and we've got some new people on the tour, and for some it was quite a shock! Good to see all in good spirits and willing to
partake in this self torture! An excellent hit rate tonight. No chilis tonight... instead using hot Zinderloo sauce!

Zinderloo sauce - how hot can it be?!
|
|
George is a chili veteran, so no challenge here...
|
Burge with two shots, again another chili veteran...
|
The lovely Vanessa turns out to be a chili powerhouse, 3 shots with no sweat!
|
So we ran out of sauce... and the massively buff guy cooks up something extra special for us...
|
Zinderloo Sauce XL! The paste of a thousand suns.
|
It's fun when you don't have to eat four shots of super chili isn't it Dan? ...good effort!
